During my practicum with Image Fatale Agency in Feb 2020 - a fashion illustration and cinemagraph company, Paris Fashion Week was occurring. My mentor had given me advice to find an influencer that was at Paris Fashion Week and to draw them. Through researching on Instagram, I came across a fashionable woman named Leila Depina. She wore a striking red oversized double-breasted Balmain blazer, a black sheer top underneath, with matching red tights and red Fendi thigh-high boots, accessorized with a mini black Lady Dior bag, and a pair Dita Eyewear aviators.


I admired her confidence and attitude which inspired me to draw her. I posted it on my illustration Instagram account, not expecting much attention since this account was still relatively new. Then Leila Depina commented and reacted to it saying how much she loved it. This then sparked her to message me, asking how I discovered her, whether I was at Paris Fashion Week as well and if I want to meet up to chat.


As honoured as I was, the truth was that I had discovered her by scrolling through Instagram's Paris Fashion Week style feed. Plus, I was in Vancouver, BC.


A few weeks later, she asked me if I could help her make a little collage video for her Instagram Story. I was happy to do it - you can see watch it below.


Was it by chance, was it fate? Who knows. But as long as every connection is a happy one, then that is the best introduction to an ongoing chapter.
