PROJECT BRIEF
This was an academic project in a group of three. I was mainly involved with interviewing, filming, video editing and illustrating. We were asked to produce documentary-style videos for our choice of organization or researcher. Our team decided to work with the International Symposium for Electronic Arts (ISEA) 2015 Vancouver. We created four promotional videos for them: three interviews and one animated title sequence. The interview with Philippe Pasquier and the animated title sequence were used before and during the event and for promotion. The music were provided by Philippe Pasquier. The ISEA logo and branding were provided by ISEA Vancouver.
PROCESS
: Script
There was not much scripting or storyboarding needed since we were producing documentary-type videos. This is because the process of creating a documentary is very organic, meaning that most of the outcome is unpredictable since we will be doing a lot of unplanned field recording. At the end of gathering footages, they will then be analyzed and stringed together in a logical manner. It was just a matter of logistics of when and where we should be in order to film.
The main planning was used towards researching and developing interview questions to be asked. As for branding, ISEA 2015 already had an existing branding and thus, was given to us as assets.
PROCESS
: Editing
Putting the interviews and footages together was a very organic process. I did the video editing which included sequencing and colour correction. It first started with analyzing the interview responses to pick out the most important and interesting information. Then, it needed to be sequenced in a logical order. Next, the information needed to be matched with relevant supporting footages such as footages of dancers if the interviewee talked about dancers.

ABOUT THE CLIENT
The International Symposium for Electronic Arts (ISEA) 2015 Vancouver is a nomadic event that showcases installations and performances all relating to electronic arts. Every year, it is hosted by a different city. In summer 2015, it was hosted by Vancouver. The theme for that year was “Disruption: the aesthetics of change, renewal, and game-changing paradigms”. The theme was also divided into seven subgroups. We worked in direct contact with Maria Fedorova, who was the ISEA 2015 communication chair.
PROCESS
: Filming
Working with Maria Fedorova, we decided on what we wanted to advertise for ISEA 2015. My team decided to focus on promoting the various venues. Fedorova then connected us to various industry professionals who were involved with ISEA 2015 and gave us access to various events for filming. During these events, we each documented the event with our own cameras by taking videos.
When we were interviewing a guest, I was the main interviewer while my partners handled the cameras and sound recorders. During one of the interviews, one teammate was unavailable and thus, I doubled as cameraman and as the interviewer.
PROCESS
: sound design
The music used in the interviews was provided by Philippe Pasquier. There was minimal sound correction needed on the interviews aside for balancing the speech with the background music.
The clients were very pleased with the videos and used them during the event for promotion. The video featuring Unit/Pitt was unfortunately not relevant enough to ISEA however, the gallery that it was featuring enjoyed it very much and was then corrected to promote Unit/Pitt and was thus, used by them instead.
